Not only are women often responsible for fetching water and since this is time consuming, it prevents them from gaining an education, earning a formal wage and therefore puts gender equality under pressure

– To empower women involved in subsistence farming to undertake modern farming techniques to grow food that they can consume and sell to fight hunger and poverty, thus improving their livelihoods and those of their communities.
-To increased food security and sustainable livelihood for women headed families/ homesteads
-Limited capital and access to affordable credit. Majority of women do not own land, yet they form the largest workforce in agriculture. Lack of capital and access to affordable credit means that they cannot afford to purchase basic farm inputs, pay for agricultural extension workers services, weed out their farms and access modern technology to improve farm yields. This in turn leads to food insecurity. Many women headed homesteads suffer from food insecurity due to the fact that women do not have resources to buy certified seeds, manures, equipment. Nor do they have access to credit to buy fish, thus not able to compete with those who buy fish in bulk for sale in big cities.
-Train women in value-additions to be able to gain more from the activities they will undertake.
-Improve livelihoods of women living in abject poverty, thus reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS which comes as a result of poverty.
